Welcome message from our Chairman - Tim Gush
Chairman’s 2026 Welcome
Welcome to Minster Lovell Cricket Club and another exciting season of cricket. A warm welcome awaits all the visiting teams to Minster Lovell Cricket Club, at Wash Meadow and the Recreation Ground at Brize Norton.
We continue to run the three Saturday Cherwell League teams, Sunday and mid-week friendlies and cup competition teams plus the ‘inclusive’ Minster Lions.
The preparations have once again been hampered by the wet weather but with everything crossed, we should be on course for our first matches in late April.
This is mainly due to the hard work of our MLCC groundsman crew, which this year has the additional help from Paddy Daniel (at Wash Meadow) and Nick Angus at Brize Norton. The pressure is on….
Our junior section seems to get better and bigger every year, and this season is no exception. From AllStars through Dynamos – which this year has a new all girls section – to Under 19s. With the fixtures now in, I believe we are playing more matches in 2026 then ever before. My thanks – and the club’s – must go to all the coaches and administrators of the junior section. They commitment, time and effort they put into the junior section is a credit to them and the club. It should be something the MLCC should be very proud of. It ensures that the club is in ‘good health’ and has a stream of talent cricketers just waiting to join the senior teams.
I am also very pleased to announce that our senior captains remain as last year, their contribution was enormous and the continuity will make for exciting times ahead. I wish Olly, Tony and Jake all the success for this season and for many more to come.
As one can imagine, running a successful and thriving cricket club in these uncertain times can become a bit of a struggle. With rising costs, the club must be even more diligent on its expenditure. The club is extremely grateful to our sponsors, particularly to B&E as the club’s main sponsor, but to all those companies/individuals who have generously given donations to help our cause. Thank you.
Something which runs alongside our sponsors is our brilliant volunteers, who really do an amazing job. The committee members, the already mentioned coaches, umpires, scorers, helpers on the barbecue, family taxis and so on. Couldn’t do it without you. However, we could always do with more people stepping up and helping. A parent or relative, a partner, a sibling, or anyone who may just want to help. No specialist skills are required, just a bit of time and enthusiasm!
Please do get in touch if you can help. Thank you.
If you are reading this, you may have realised that the club has got a new website! The old paper fixture list is no more! All the information you now need (and some you may not) are all on our new website. Once you have finished here have a look through the site. All fixtures are available – and with any immediate updates you should never miss a match!
Check out the sponsors’ page, see if any can be a useful contact. Just click on their advert and it will take you directly to their site. Just think… their generosity is helping this club – can we not give a little back by using their products or services!
A date for your diary! AUGUST 2nd 2026
Hopefully this will be a glorious sunny day and a brilliant celebratory game of cricket.
After many, many years both myself, as Chairman and Dave & Lyn Lewis as Presidents are moving to one side for younger models…. as a way of saying cheerio (although we shall still be around supporting) the club are holding a Presidents’ XI v Chairman’s XI on the 2nd August.
There will be plenty of food and drink, with plenty of entertainment for all.
It has been an honour to be Chairman of MLCC for the last 20 years. Many things have change and many stories to be told. However, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who, for the last twenty years, has been there spending their valuable time helping and working hard towards making this club of ours an ever improving, enjoyable and a competitive place to play cricket.
What can one say about Dave and Lyn, thank you never quite seems enough when trying to find words to describe what Mr & Mrs Lewis has done for Minster Lovell Cricket Club. Dave’s involvement in cricket at MLCC is legendary, Lyn’s teas are on equal standing. The support and sponsorship through their Spar shop have been game changing, especially of the award-winning Minster Lions.
The whole club would like to say THANK YOU Dave and Lyn. It’s been an absolute honour and pleasure.
Wishing all our teams and players a very successful and enjoyable season.
Tim Gush
